I am extremely happy that we chose Paul Maina as the general contractor for our new LBI home.  We had a fantastic experience!  In fact, I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to build a quality home on a barrier island without someone like Paul. He had great ideas that helped us to make some modifications to the architect’s original plans, and then was great at solving the handful of problems that inevitably present themselves in the field when construction begins.  Given the harsh environment, he made sure that we always chose the appropriate materials.  Paul has tremendous attention to details, and his intellectual curiosity has led him to accumulate a wealth of knowledge on various design and construction topics that proved to be quite useful during our project. 

   What I particularly like about Paul was the professional manner in which he conducts business and his responsiveness.  He not only responds quickly to phone calls and emails via his Blackberry, but also frequently emails photo updates during construction.  He also used his photo editing skill to actually show us what some of our potential choices could look like, such as the fireplace and mantle design.  

   Paul is quite easy to work with, willing to offer his expert opinion while always leaving the final decision up to us.  As we had never built a house before, we also benefited from Paul’s well developed sense of design style, symmetry and consistency, and color balance.  He truly wanted us to be as happy as possible with the finished product.  For instance, he spent numerous hours locating and then 6 hours driving Bonnie all over LBI in order to show her the shingle, siding, and metal roof options and combinations that she was considering on actual homes.  I doubt many contractors would put in this kind of detailed effort.

   Finally, we were quite pleased with all of the sub-contractors on our job.  Paul is very neat and meticulous, and his subs also reflected this attitude.  In all, we can’t imagine a better construction experience.

   When we discovered that we had a leak in our upstairs living room ceiling, we were very upset as you might expect. I contacted Paul and it was smooth sailing from then on. He arranged to meet us at the house in just a few days, inspected the area and suggested several possible causes for the problem and as well as several approaches to solving it. He took pictures of the damaged area both before, during and while the repair work was in progress. He was able to be there, when the insurance adjuster arrived. The work was performed on time and we were updated by Paul on the progress being made. He also uncovered another unrelated problem with our chimney, that could have led to water problems down the road. The best thing about Paul is that he is honest, knows what he is doing, offers several options for repairing the problem and completes the work in a timely fashion.
